NEW YEAR IN VIENNA, 9-DAY GOLDEN EAGLE LUXURY RAIL TOUR

Itinerary

Day 1:  LONDON – BUDAPEST

Check-in at London Gatwick for flight to Budapest DEP/**:** (LGW) – ARR/ **:** (BUD).

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace in Budapest for a two-night stay on a B/B basis.

Welcome reception dinner upon arrival at the hotel – overnight at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace.

Day 2: BUDAPEST

After Breakfast – city tour including the Royal Palace, St. Mathias Church and views from Gellert Hill, as well as the Citadel, Opera House, St Stephen’s Cathedral, Heroes Square and the City Park.

Afternoon at leisure – opportunity to visit the cities many Christmas Marketsor famous Thermal Baths.

Dinner – own arrangements and evening at leisure. Overnight at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace.

Day 3: KESZTHELY

After Breakfast – transfer from our hotel to board the Golden Eagle Danube Express. Time to settle into your luxury cabin before departing through Hungary’s winter landscapes to Balaton Uplands National Park.

Arrive in Keszthely for a tour of Festetics Palace.

Continue on the Golden Eagle Danube Express overnight to Austria.

Day 4: NEW YEAR’S EVE IN GRAZ & VIENNA

Arrive in Graz, Austria – transfer by coach to the city centre for a short walking tour. Choose between free leisure time or pumpkin seed oil tasting, complete with traditional, locally made bread and wine.

Gourmet Lunch on board the Golden Eagle Danube Expressbefore continuing on to Vienna where the group will take part in a Viennese waltz lesson.

New Year’s Eve in Vienna – Gala dinner at City Hall with music by the Wiener Hofball Orchestra. Music and dancing before midnight fireworks viewed from the City Hall balcony.

Day 5: NEW YEAR’S DAY IN VIENNA

New Year’s Morning – take a horse-drawn carriage ride along the cobbled streets to brunch at the Palais Coburg, accompanied by the live transmission of the New Year concert from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Afternoon – choose between a guided tour of the Monastery of Heilgenkreuz or free leisure time.

Evening – dinner aboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express before an overnight journey to the Czech Republic.

Day 6: CESKY KRUMLOV & PRAGUE

Morning in Cesky Krumlov – a short introduction to the town followed by leisure time to explore.

A scenic lunch on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express before continuing on to Prague.

Afternoon in Prague – introductory tour of the city including the Old Town Square. Late afternoon – return to the train to prepare ahead of the evening’s operatic performance at the Prague Karlin Theatre.

Day 7: PRAGUE

Morning in Prague – take a vintage tram through the city up the hill to Prague Castle and the St. Vitus Cathedral, where lunch will be served among the architectural treasures of the ‘City of a hundred Spires’.

Afternoon at leisure before dinner on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express as it journeys back to Hungary.

Day 8: KOSICE, SLOVAKIA

Morning in Kosice – a highlights tour of the city, including the oval-shaped central square and its 15th-16th century relics.

Lunch on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express before an evening arrival back in Budapest. Upon arrival you will check back into the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace for a farewell dinner.

Overnight at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace.

Day 9: BUDAPEST – LONDON

After breakfast – transfer to Budapest Airport for flight to London Gatwick DEP/**:** (BUD) – ARR/ **:** (LGW).

*There is also an option to extend your stay in Budapest for additional nights to explore more of this fascinating city.
